Can they even do that? I mean, they can do whatever they want as far as an increase goes, but to base it on you taking advantage of time off that's provided to you? Something doesn't sound right there. Have you considered sitting down and discussing with your boss? At the very least, ask him to review your perfomance again in a few months... posted by: Trekguy (reply) post date: 06.27.05 (5:56 am) That really does suck! No allowance for your personal life and problems(like you can help having tot take care of kids and your own illness), seems to be the same for lots of companies. What in the hell has that got to do with you being eligable for a raise? posted by: FinalyFree (reply) post date: 06.27.05 (6:02 am) What's the point of having sick days if you're not supposed to use them? Jeez. And they can withold a pay raise for using time that is rightfully yours? All of this then they have the gall to tell you that you perform your job better than just about anyone? I don't get it...and can certainly understand why you wouldn't. I'm sorry and hopefully the afternoon will prove to be a little better for you :) posted by: JT (reply) post date: 06.27.05 (6:12 am) You guys all rock. Personally, I think it's a witch hunt. They can't complain about my performance, but I'm not universally beloved (apparently), so little things turn into a reason for people in upper management to keep costs low. This is not coming from my direct supervisor; he seems to have no problems with me, and if anything, seemed a little embarrassed to deliver the bad news. I think I'm just in a bad place for me. This is a place where, on my last review (where I got a wholly unexpected 5% raise), I was told that my average 38.5-hr workweeks weren't long enough; I was expected to meet or exceed 40 hrs charged to projects each week. I said I'll be fine with 40 hrs, but I'm not paid for overtime, so if there is a specific problem I need to attend, I'll be here to work on it. Otherwise, after 40 hrs, my time belongs to my family. Fuck EVERYONE. Right? posted by: themarina (reply) post date: 06.27.05 (11:07 am) Nitwits. All of them. It always amazes me (thought from experience I should know better) that they manage to screw around anyone who does any actual work. Where the hell would they be without people like you? Honestly, this is insane. I know things will get better. They have to right? :) Sending you lots 'a hugs ((((((((HUGS)))))))) posted by: JT (reply) post date: 06.27.05 (11:42 am) Reply to: themarina *sniff sniff* I love you, man!!!! posted by: lynne (reply) post date: 06.27.05 (2:03 pm) Honestly, I think this is a perfect example of how sexist our culture still is. Child rearing usually falls into the laps of women and even in families where the man actually does 1/2 of the home chores and such, women still are the ones who have to do the pregnancy thing which doesnt always make one feel good and might mean more sick days. Now, as a single person, I dont think people with families should get extra perks at work but I think HR policies that acknowledge that people have lives outside of work would be better for society as a whole. I think more personal days and more vacation and not punishing people for using that time would benefit everyone, including them because when people arent so stressed about their home lives, they tend to be more productive at work. posted by: almsthvn (reply) post date: 06.27.05 (6:28 pm) I hope they get major boils on their private parts. You rock and they're damned lucky to have you. posted by: JT (reply) post date: 06.28.05 (5:06 am) Reply to: lynne I absolutely agree with you! It's not that parents should get perks -- it's that companies should recognize the value of the *whole* associate; that someone with responsibilities and interests outside of work can bring that energy to their job. For what it's worth, my company's policies are fairly flexible; it's just that they leave certain things up to the department to regulate. For example, some managers here will give unlimited paid sick time, especially for stuff like hospital stays and extenuating circumstances (like when I nearly lost my eye last year after surgery and then caught pneumonia). But my department head is a by-the-book person who absolutely doesn't get into people having personal lives. Fer crying out loud, his wife and kids live five states away; he moved up here to take this job and "commutes" home every few weeks. What kind of family understanding would a person like that have? posted by: JT (reply) post date: 06.28.05 (5:07 am) Reply to: almsthvn *kiss kiss* Love ya, girl. How's Tex-ass? posted by: almsthvn (reply) post date: 06.29.05 (8:33 am) Reply to: JT fucking hot and humid. actually, too hot and humid for fucking. How do these people procreate down here? Must be the air conditioning. |
