Anybody else remember Tootsie Pop Drops? They were Tootsie Pops without the stick. Yum.

Other childhood faves I miss:

* Marathon bars. A long braid of caramel coated in chocolate. In the UK, they're made by Cadbury and called Curly Wurlys.
* The Brachs bridge mix that I remember had chocolate-covered cherry-flavored bits. Yummy. I don't think it's the same now.
* Broadway Rolls, later known as Delfa Rolls, and then Danish Ribbons. They seem to be discontinued completely and I'm dying for them. Baby wants red licorice!
* Life Saver Swirl Pops
* Pop Rocks
* Slo Pokes
* BB Bats (except for banana)
* Toffifay

And this isn't from my childhood, but while I was pregnant with Jake, I had to shlep to Orland Park to hit the one Motherhood Maternity store that carried some plus sizes. There was a candy store in that mall that sold grape mini Swedish Fish. I still dream about those fuckin' things.

I loved the Marathon bar! It gets a shout-out in Steve Almond's book Candyfreak. He noticed how much of the fucker was airholes. Do you feel duped, too?

You can buy Pop Rocks anywhere these days, and I swear I've seen Slo Pokes around. It would be nice to see the Tootsie Pop Drops again—no cumbersome stick to clog our landfills!

You can still get pop rocks. But I haven't seen Marathon Bars in FOREVER. Those were my favorite!!! *bliss memories*

You can even still get the white sugar candy sticks with the red end that come in a box that looks just like a cigarette box. That FLOORED me!!!!

Hey, JT--stop by my blog and e-mail me your e-mail address so I can send you the five questions (um, after I get around to writing them). I don't know how to find your e-mail at a tblog.

Never had a marathon bar but it sounds good. I also like Cadbury Flake which was a UK thing and you could only find it in tabacco shops now and again.
Those cherry bits you are referring to are still in the bridge mix I eat... made by lowney.
Damn I love candy.

You CAN get Flake! Cost Plus World Market carries it. The only reason I know is that my friend Sally, who hails from London, made her daughter the most adorable porcupine cake for her last birthday, and used Flake for the quills. It was the cutest damned thing I think I ever saw.

And Flake does, indeed, rock. If you don't have Cost Plus by you, let me know. I'll pick you up a bunch and ship 'em to ya.

I'm in Canada so I don't have a Cost Plus around. But I also don't need to be stuffing my face with Flake. I would LOVE to, but my ASS doesn't need any help keeping it's XL status.

I snuck into Suckers Candy on Damen yesterday -- and they are SELLING CURLY WURLY bars! The gal working there said the owner was so psyched to find them. People are buying them in huge bunches.

I also bought a handful of Walnettos to send to Steve Dahl, who was missing them a few months ago.
