eternal question
05.09.05 (8:34 am)   [edit]
The eternal question of the first trimester, for those not currently experiencing the joy:

Am I nauseous, or hungry? If I eat, will I feel better, or will I puke?

Protein is supposed to help. I ate dinner last night (Steak!!! Thanks, Mom & Dad!), and felt a little too full for about two hours, at which point I got the munchies. Ooops. So I ate popcorn and then some cheese (protein! calcium! fat!).

I remember my OB telling me during my 1st pregnancy (I think) that I should try to eat protein before going to sleep. That many women get morning sickness because they don't eat at night (Oprah diet, anyone?). Yeah, that's what I need -- a medically-backed excuse to snack at night.

But there's something to it. The longer I go without eating out of fear for throwing up, the worse I feel. Then when I do eat, I eat too fast and feel crappy again. So the goal here, I think, is to graze as healthfully as possible. Probably I should invest in some dry roasted cashews or something to keep at my desk.

In the meantime, I'm sipping some juice and contemplating a teaspoon of peanut butter.

Ugh, just writing that made me feel sick. Never mind...

Try drinking ginger tea. Take fresh giner and grate it up into hot water and drink. If you cant face that eat ginger buscuits. I have found ginger to sort out morning sickness

*hugs* .. gentle ones, not that put pressure on the tum.

Cashews and almonds were my friend... and loads of water, of course.

Ginger is great for stomach problems plus it tastes great!

I feel for you. I hate feel nauseous.

That really makes me wonder if some of your nausea is related to your blood sugar levels. I experience the same thing if my sugar went too low I felt HORRIBLE. Low blood sugar stimulates your appetite and makes you want to gorge- then you feel bloated. Ooooh i remember it all too well.
The ginger tea didn't do much for me, but sour fruit flavoured candies helped.

I was gestatinal diabetic bTw, hence the excess knowledge on blood sugar levels.

Oy, that would scare me. Did everything go back to normal after baby was born?

Thanks to all for the suggestions.... I do like sipping ginger ale when I'm nauseous. Maybe the ginger aura helps...

Yup, everything is back to normal now.
I have increased my chances of developing Type 2 diabetes by 60% by having insulin dependant gestational diabetes (for both pregnancies). So I'm trying to shed some serious weight in the next year to ward that off, wish me luck, I'll sure need it.
I'm wishing you luck with your nausea, it's the worst!!
